Card of the Month: October - Hide and Seek

We first discovered Lisa Graa Jensen RI at the Royal Institute for Painters in Watercolour annual show at the Mall Galleries in London in 2015. We were at the exhibition to choose a painting and to offer the Dry Red Press Award to the artist. When we came across Hide and Seek we knew straight away that we had found our winner. To our delight Lisa accepted the award and that was the beginning of our collaboration. After the success of Hide and Seek, we introduced a whole range of her work and it has been extremely popular, with new designs added each year. We don't usually give spoilers for our upcoming collection but we don't think our Lisa Graa-Jensen fans will be disappointed in January 2020!

Hide and Seek by Lisa Graa-Jensen

Lisa lives and works near Wimbledon Common, having previously lived in rural France. From these places she takes her inspiration for her whimsical, vibrant and colourful paintings, illustrating all things to do with nature and changing seasons. The paintings are full of animals, birds and people in their everyday lives. Lisa talks about Hide and Seek:

"Hide and Seek is based on Wimbledon Common which reflects beautifully
all the seasons. The painting is about the amazing variety of lovely dogs you can meet here. Walking there every day with various rescue dogs we have adopted over the last 45 years we meet a lot of friendly people to have a doggy chat with. We usually take in sheep or shepherd dogs and have had two lurchers, so they usually star in my paintings. We currently have a sweet Romanian rescued Collie dog."

The painting was also on the Global Artists Guide website where it won an Artist of the Year award sponsored by the Bridgeman Art Library. The prize was a huge box of oil paints. Lisa says she struggles with oil painting and hasn't quite mastered it, but Hide and Seek is painted in acrylic inks which she loves, and which also reproduces well.
