Countryside LANDSCAPE Pastel Sheep Shropshire Sue Campion

Card of the Month: June - A Group of Shropshires

If you know Sue Campion you will know the Shropshire landscape – even if you have never had the pleasure of visiting. A Group of Shropshires is a typical Campion pastel of the Shropshire hills surrounding her home. This is one of our most recent introductions to Sue's much loved range of cards and it is hugely popular with our customers. The original painting which is 20 x 24 inches took Sue around three days to finish and sold soon after at The Russell Gallery in Putney where similar paintings are available. The rolling, early summer landscape with its blossom and the group of curious sheep in the foreground looking back at us makes a perfect scene for a painting – and for a greeting card. Sue says she knows this landscape so well she could almost paint it from memory.

A Group of Shropshires by Sue Campion

Sue Campion was born in London and originally trained and worked as a display artist in the 60’s and 70’s. She travelled and painted in Spain, Belgium, Sweden and Australia before returning to England to study fine art at Nottingham Trent University, graduating in 1990. She became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 2007. She now works from her studio in her beautiful garden in Shrewsbury as well as travelling and painting in Italy and Spain. Sue has had numerous solo exhibitions and is part of many private and corporate collections. She is represented by the following galleries:

Sue Campion was one of the founders of Dry Red Press, which started in 2009 with a small catalogue of her paintings published as greeting cards. From there the business grew and although Sue left a couple of years ago to focus on her painting and exhibiting, her art is still very much at the heart of Dry Red Press.

We have published many of Sue’s paintings as greeting cards over the years and they have always been great sellers. She works in pastel and oil, producing colourful images of landscapes, flowers, birds, portraits and more recently some abstracts. From the bays, pines and hills of the Mediterranean region to the seasonal scenes of the Shropshire countryside, she brings to life the scenes in front of her combining rich colour with a strong sense of pattern and design.

Sue’s next solo show will be at Twenty-Twenty Gallery in Ludlow in November 2019.
